Displaytech FLCOS Microdisplay Enables the First Commercially Available Pico-Projector
LONGMONT, Colo. --(Business Wire)-- Displaytech, the supplier of ferroelectric liquid crystal on silicon (FLCOS) microdisplays, announced today its VGA microdisplay is being used in the first portable consumer product that integrates a pico-projector, the SunView (PMP projector), that was recently introduced at the Hong Kong Electronics Fair. "We are extremely excited, but not surprised, that our FLCOS microdisplay is used in the first consumer product to integrate a pico-projector. FLCOS technology yields the microdisplays best suited for small, battery-operated consumer devices," commented Richard Barton, CEO of Displaytech. The FLCOS microdisplays are available in VGA, WVGA, and SVGA resolutions, with the display and integrated controller/driver dissipating less than 100 mW, making these devices perfect for battery-powered applications. The FLCOS microdisplays are field proven in mobile consumer electronic devices with the shipment of over 17 million FLCOS microdisplays used as electronic viewfinders in digital still cameras and video camcorders. Displaytech is the only supplier of microdisplays targeted for pico-projectors that has shipped volume product for use in mobile consumer electronic devices.
"We selected the Displaytech VGA FLCOS microdisplay for our pico-projector based on the competitive advantages of compact size, power efficiency, and stunning image quality. Displaytech's successful track record of production shipments of FLCOS into mobile consumer devices gives us the confidence that the product can be ramped to volume quickly," said Dr. CC Chang, Chairman of iView.
