Voxofon to Launch Application on Android Mobile Platform

Voxofon, an Internet telephony service which offers a range of options for low-cost international calling, has announced to provide a new application for the Android (News - Alert) platform built by the Open Handset Alliance.

Voxofon is first VoIP company to launch this service for use on Android phones when they become available later this year. The service offers transparent cost optimization for roaming and international calls.

The Voxofon international calling services allow customers to make calls using their computer, their land line, their cell phone or a smartphone. Calling costs start at just 1.3 cents per minute, with no additional fees.

The company already offers an iPhone (News - Alert) Web application with a familiar user interface and a way to manage contacts, with no downloading or installation.

Voxofon works on both Windows and Linux systems with Java runtime installed, and no special software is needed to be downloaded for making calls from a PC.

Voxofon also offers local phone numbers in 54 countries for customers without access to a computer, so that they can make international calls while paying the local rate.

Users can avail all Voxofon services are available under a single account, enjoying the flexibility to use the service they find most convenient.

Alexey Goloshubin, president and chief executive officer at Voxofo, said that the new application is in line with his company's philosophy of offering multiple, inexpensive and easy-to-use options for calling.

Goloshubin noted that the Voxofon application on the Android phone will help users save money on international calls without any extra steps on their part.

The users can simply place calls on the phone as usual, using the phone's address book or keypad, and Voxofon will just sit in the background and re-route the international calls. This is a perfect add-on for anybody calling or traveling abroad, added Goloshubin.

Headquartered in Houston, Texas, Voxofon has provided a special section on its Web site focusing upon the new application, with a short video showing how to use the service.
